Generative AI has changed the art landscape, making it easy for anyone to tap into their creative spirit and create visual masterpieces. One startup leading the charge: OpenArt

Founded in 2022, OpenArt is an AI art generation platform that lets users craft and customize digital artwork through text prompts. Powered by advanced machine learning models like DALL-E 3, it offers a quick and easily customizable solution to a wide range of use cases, including graphic design, content marketing, gaming, book illustrations, and product design.

Given how quickly the generative AI space continues to evolve, OpenArt needed a dynamic content strategy to build a stronghold against competitors. This had become even more urgent after its team observed a plateau in the platform’s traffic.

Deciding to give programmatic SEO (pSEO) a shot, OpenArt’s team turned to daydream. And within eight months of partnering, daydream has helped create 1,500+ pages for OpenArt—driving more than 1 million visits in organic traffic per month. We explain how in more detail below.

❗ The challenge: OpenArt’s traditional SEO approach had plateaued

OpenArt founder Coco Mao was well-aware of content as a lever for organic growth. In fact, this had led her and the OpenArt team to investing in traditional SEO.

However, despite their initial SEO investment, OpenArt’s organic traffic had plateaued, limiting the platform’s ability to reach new audiences. This didn’t dissuade Coco from SEO, though. On the contrary, it seemed more like a signal to adjust OpenArt’s strategy—specifically, by shifting to pSEO.

“We were fascinated by the idea of programmatic SEO to break our [organic traffic] plateau,” Coco said. “However, we didn’t have the internal resources to explore this approach.”

Coco connected with our team at daydream to investigate pSEO’s potential. Although she expressed some initial skepticism, daydream helped change her mind after demonstrating its ability to generate high-quality content at scale for long-tail, high-intent search queries.

“The data-driven nature of daydream's approach was the key factor that convinced me,” she said.

⚡ The solution: partner with daydream to build high-performing content at scale

In March 2024, OpenArt partnered with daydream to implement a scalable pSEO engine. The daydream team offered not only a technical pSEO platform but also strategy and AI expertise to help OpenArt enhance its organic visibility.

To kick things off, we first brainstormed and researched a broad range of long-tail keywords related to generative AI and image generation. From there, we identified four programmatic page templates with high potential search volume and scalability:

  • AI [Style] Generator

  • AI Features

  • [Platform] Prompts for [Topic]

  • Competitor Comparisons and Alternatives

Each template targeted a specific search behavior within OpenArt’s marketing funnel and reflected user intent relevant to its product offering and ideal customer profile. Below, we describe each template in more detail.

AI [Style] Generator

Just like film encompasses a wide range of genres, art spans a diverse array of styles and aesthetics. This became clear in daydream’s research process when we saw an abundance of terms following the “AI [Style] Generator” format. Just to name a few:

  • AI 3D cartoon generator

  • AI anime character generator

  • AI alien creature generator

Realizing these terms’ large cumulative search volume and potential for scalability, we decided to tackle these pages as our first programmatic template for OpenArt. As top-of-funnel keywords, they presented an excellent content opportunity to introduce users to OpenArt.

Working with Coco and her team, daydream defined content sections that would not only address readers’ intent but also encourage them to try out OpenArt. To that end, the generator pages prominently feature examples of generated artworks, as well as brief descriptions of OpenArt’s main value props and CTAs to “Start Creating” and “Customize.”

Here’s an example targeting the keyword phrase “AI pokemon generator.”

Below the examples, these pages include programmatically generated text offering guidance on how to use OpenArt’s generator and write an effective prompt.

Altogether, daydream created more than 400 pages in this format, all part of OpenArt’s Generator Library.

AI Features

After the generator pages, daydream moved onto the “AI Features” template next. This strategy focused on answering keyword phrases related to specific AI editing features, like removing braces from someone’s smile or applying a bald filter to someone’s hair.

With AI’s ability to modify images in all kinds of ways, terms in this category seemed endless—magnified further by the fact that countless keyword variations exist for a single feature. For instance, here’s a small glimpse of the various ways people search for AI features related to braces:

  • “braces filters”

  • “ai braces”

  • “braces remover filter”

  • “online braces filter”

The sheer number of these terms and their cumulative search volume presented yet another solid opportunity for programmatic SEO—one that could also showcase OpenArt’s ability to handle such requests.

With that in mind, daydream created more than 320 programmatic features pages to highlight OpenArt’s image editing tools. Each page includes above the fold an interactive demo letting users preview the feature instantly, as well as an upload feature driving users directly to OpenArt’s platform.

Here's the “Braces Filter” page as an example.

Just like the generator pages, this template also features programmatically generated text explaining how to use the filter on OpenArt and get good results.

[Platform] Prompts for [Topic]

While the generator and feature templates resulted in highly visual pages that showcase OpenArt’s product, daydream also saw opportunity in more text-based content topics—specifically, AI prompts.

When it comes to generative AI, the quality of output depends on the quality of input, or the prompts given to AI models. As a result, many users looking to experiment with generative AI naturally search for tips and sample prompts, either for specific platforms or for broader use. Their searches run the gamut, including keywords like:

  • “Tattoo prompts”

  • “Funny ai image prompts”

  • “Stable diffusion prompts for realistic photos”

  • “Midjourney anime prompts”

Noticing the common thread of “prompts,” daydream created the “[Platform] Prompts for [Topic]” template where “platform” would be a specific AI tool like Midjourney or Stable Diffusion. For an example, take a look at “The Best 25 Stable Diffusion Prompts for Tattoo” page.

Since OpenArt uses Stable Diffusion and other AI models, it made sense to narrow in on the platform-specific keywords, as the pages could then also emphasize OpenArt as the tool of choice for art generation. Notice the language included in the example above:

“With the help of OpenArt's Stable Diffusion 3.0 models, you can create stunning visuals that will leave a lasting impression.

Note that all the images below are created on OpenArt - a free platform to create your AI images.”

In this way, the “[Platform] Prompts for [Topic]” template also drives users toward OpenArt, even if they weren’t initially aware of it in the first place. By expanding to even more platforms beyond Stable Diffusion, we created over 300 of these listicle-style posts, all of which were published on OpenArt’s blog.

Competitor Comparisons and Alternatives

Finally, moving further down OpenArt’s marketing funnel, daydream also created programmatic templates focused on competitors.

Fueled by rapid technological advancements and a growing demand for creative assets, the AI image generation market is experiencing rocketship growth—exciting but also challenging in a competitive sense. Users face a wide variety of options, and it’s not always clear what distinguishes one platform from another. Because of this, many searches for AI platform reviews exist.

Realizing these searches as a content opportunity to reach users with purchase intent, we developed two programmatic templates about OpenArt’s competitors:

Both templates would help users actively deciding between generative AI platforms and even better, introduce OpenArt as a high-quality option.

For example, after comparing the two given competitors, pages using the [Competitor] vs. [Competitor] template also include a section about OpenArt that explains its features. Similarly, pages using the listicle-style [Competitor] Alternatives template highlight OpenArt as the top alternative to consider trying.

📈 The impact: 1,500+ new pages and tens of thousands of new organic keywords

Since OpenArt began partnering with daydream in the spring of 2024, it’s published more than 1,500 pages across the four programmatic templates mentioned above. Within a seven-month span, that amounts to more than 210 pages per month—a scale of unimaginable magnitude had OpenArt decided to continue pursuing a traditional SEO approach and manual content creation.
